[Thesis] - Multiple Berlin

Type Urban Planning Research
Location Berlin | Germany
Size 40.000 sqm
Stage Diploma Thesis
Date WS 09|10

Text The starting point of this project evolved during researching the ongoing conflict between differing social groups regarding their interests in one of the most attractive pieces of fallow land in the heart of Berlin: the Spree riversides located between Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg.

Through iteratively distributing programmatic layers resulting from the surrounding city fabric onto the site and systematically mixing volumes of different social characteristics the motive of a foam structure appears. The quality of formal variety as a consequence within the heterogeneity of the overall system is implied into the arbitrative design methodology called function aesthetics. Focusing onto the space partitioning strategy of Voronoi regions features gradient-driven diversity in creating highly functional orthogonal structures as well as distorted and geometrically complex volumes. Pointclouds generated from early studies of programmatic foam structures are therefore manipulated locally depending on functional-programmatic attributes. Consequently, the result articulates the geometric variety as a foundation for partitioning into Voronoi cells.

The emerging spatial strategy offers interesting interactions within social-territorial typologies which are scenically described and particularly illustrated around the area of the created hybrid-cluster intersecting the existing "Viktoria" storehouse building. Moreover, possible scenarios regarding the social-territorial distribution are demonstrated within milieu maps carrying information about physically and theoretically adoption of space units. Additionally, different concepts are defined for regulating and ensuring social-characteristic diversity within the subsystem of the study area.

Thanks to Romy Heiland and Dimitrie Stefanescu for all your support and feedback.

[HTWK WShop] - LuminosiTRAP

Type Workshop Project
Location Surface Light Sources
Size 700 x 300 mm
Stage Completed
Date 9th Semester

Text The main logic of the light trapping system is a polydirectional relationship between component volume for illumination and perforation openings for transparencies and light penetration. Due to parametric relationships between depth, openings and geometry the intricate system creates various generations based all on the same logics of volume, perforation and tectonic relationships. See all workshop results here online.

Thanks to Romy I'm grateful for your help.

[Endterm] - Param.ID

Type Urban Planning Research
Location Berlin | Germany
Size 100.000 sqm
Stage Endterm Competition Entry
Date 9th Semester

Text For the idea competition "Living in the future" we submitted an urban proposal for a site driven dynamically by parameter input from the surrounding city fabric. Situated in the heart of Berlin we developed an agenda for parametrical accentuation of crucial site characteristicts including gradients of frequency and density. After experimentation via testfield studies we assembled the evolved massing and landscape systems to the tangible proposal. See midterm here.

Voliere Findlinge

Type Aviary Pavillon
Location Oszek | Poland
Size 75 sqm
Stage Concept Design
Date 7th Semester

Text The new pavilion is integrated into the garden estate and its baroque structures and creates an easefully secluded scene apart of busy public areas. The composition of three single volumes appeares as a logical result in search of cover for human and animal as well as a meeting place in form of an aviary.

Saline Topping

Type Science Centre
Location Halle | Germany
Size 22.000 sqm
Stage Competition 3rd Prize
Date 8th Semester

Text Positioned in an existing preservation area in between of the old and new city areas of Halle/Saale the new proposal of an science center had to provide different things to the site. With topping the new volumes on the roof a maximum urban plaza for connection and interaction is achieved. Fluid splitlevel movements allow several routes and speeds through the building. Competition Collaborators: Kathleen Kunz, Franziska Kühne, Phillip Schlauch & Markus Fix

Flussdynamik

Type Urban Scale
Location Duisburg | Germany
Size 80000 sqm
Stage Competition Entry
Date 7th Semester

Text In context of a system of merging economic and habitat areas, the concept of homogenized program groups with implemented dynamic intersections evolves. Theese transitions are acting as elements of interaction and communication and have an spacious impact on the program organization.

Bowling Together

Type Exhibition Design
Location Leipzig | Germany
Size 1000 sqm
Stage Completed | Publication
Date Semester Break Summer 2007

Text For the temporary revitalization of an old bowling center in Leipzig we used the striking image in the concept. All interventions in and around the patient appeared in form of a pink coloured fluorescent tape. Therefor information, seating and display ribbons served as layer for all exhibits.

Parametric Modelling Workshop @ HTWK Leipzig

Formbar

Type Bar Furniture
Location Temporary
Size 75 sqm
Stage Material Research Design
Date 7th Semester

Text In cooperation with the university for material research Eberswalde, this projects tries to push the boundaries in wood furniture design. Parallel to the process of optimizing manufacturing parameters the design for a fluid, double-curvature bar design evolved, with the maximum of wood surface ratio.

MAV

Type Museum of contemporary Arts
Location Novi Sad | Serbia
Size 9000 sqm
Stage Competition
Date 6th Semester

Text The MAV museum of contemporary art in Novi Sad is supposed to act as a key point of the urban masterplan context. The site is characterized like a gradient among the rasterized urban block pattern and wide opened recreation areas along the Danube river. In fact the new building does not block the streams of visitors but rather organize them in, under and through the complex.
